Yesterday night was a very happy night for both Zoe and Mommy.
Mommy finally gets the break she deserved. Every night Zoe will
require Mommy to put her to bed - no one else will do. Zoe clings on
to Amy the moment Amy arrives home. It really cause Amy to be very
tired every night. And for the passed few weeks, Zoe have been
sleeping later and later, making Amy even more tired and fed up.
Amy was fed-up that I could not help, Zoe does not want to sleep and etc.
Daddy is very happy to announce that I finally broke the vicious cling
last night.
Zoe asked for me around 10.30pm and I duly obliged. Usually she just
ask for me to delay sleeping. I know the drill - she ask for me, Mommy
steps out for a break, and then after 5 minutes Zoe asked for mommy
again. But this time I have wised up and try to out maneuver her
schemes.
So when I had small baby talk with her and she then asked for mommy, I
distracted her and carried her to the window to view the neighbour's
dogs. She would forget about mommy that moment. Then i carried her and
lay her on my chest. Mommy memory gone!
Then Zoe asked me to sing her songs. "Wong Wong Wong" being her
favourite. Then Mary had a little lamb. And a few other children
songs.
She still didnt want to sleep.
Then I took out my secret weapon.
No not the cane. I sang her songs she haven't heard.
Slow Worship songs.
As I pat her on my chest, I sang - As a Deer, Only By Grace, etc..As I
gently and slowly pat her, she slept under the rhythm of my songs.
Wife Happy. Daddy Happy. Hallelujah!
Such as peace in the family,
Such as an encouraging boss,
Such as the respect of your peers,
You can add also - an unexpected kiss from your own child.
This morning while I was cuddling and carrying Zoe before I leave for work, Zoe planted a straight kiss on my lips! Then she did it again, gave a cheeky smile and said ‘kiss kiss’. I never taught her that. (Ed:My wife has since corrected me that I had taught her once and it was my wife who discouraged me) [Since my in-laws discouraged me to avoid the situation where the baby would kiss the maid. That would be haram, right? Ahem.]
It completely blew my mind! I was in Fatherland heaven! I was almost in tears.
I have always loved to kiss that cute small face of Zoe (who wouldn’t) and I do take every opportunity to kiss her on the cheek when my lips are clean. But this was different, it was from my 11-months old baby to me.
Yes, Zoe loves me, this I know. And that’s something money can’t buy.
Baby.. you walked!
My 10-months-25-days old girl now can walk - like 8 steps unassisted on thursday. Although she trails me in the ‘who is first to walk’ standings (i walked when i was 10 months old), she is not far.
She loves to walk walk walk. She enjoys walking real fast too assisted of course by a bending daddy (while he breaks his back). “Walk walk walk , walking in the light …” as i sing the tune she loves to hear.
Of course my baby is very advance for her age (ahem) - according to my paediatrician by 2-3 months. And yes she is toilet trained. And she looks like a 1 year old.
Yet there is one trait i found very endearing. She knows what is a phone and knows how to use it - as evidence by the following pictures.

She’s your brand new little daughter,
so enchanted, sweet and smart.
With a coo,
she’ll have you smiling
with a laugh,
she’ll own your heart.
It’s the time for hugs and kisses,
reassurance when she cries.
It’s the time for making moments
full of love and lullabies.
For these golden days of childhood
come and go so very fast,
hold her tight and love her dearly.
Make these precious moments last.
